Personal Biography:
A child of academia, born into the world’s first university a child of academics, raised around academics and, from early childhood, showing a blossoming genius it was no wonder to anyone that Gabriel Morley became an academic. Groundbreaking research and a penchant for unexpected leaps of logic were, many felt, ample recompense for a personality which was considered eccentric even amongst a generally peculiar social group. What shocked many, more even than his rapid swings from extremes of focus and ambivalence, sometimes even in the same sentence, or tendency to disappear, sometimes in the middle of a sentence, then return in completely different clothing with no real explanation of the absence, was the day he got up out of his office, where he was working on some calculations toward the papers for his 4th PhD, walked off and joined the Starfleet, with no warning or explanation.
A certified, if somewhat certifiable, genius Morley’s understanding of communications technologies and virtually everything similar or just interestingly different was felt to be worth the risk of training an individual who seemed so wholly unsuited to the militaristic life. It was always hoped that the potential for new discovery and research as well as the technical challenges of communications in and with space and its inhabitants would keep his focus from drifting off too far too often and, thus far, that has proved true.
